High Dynamic Range Images

High dynamic range imaging is a set of techniques that allow a greater dynamic range of luminance between the lightest and darkest areas of an image than standard digital imaging techniques or photographic methods. This wider dynamic range allows HDR images to represent more accurately the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to faint starlight.

Paris is the capital of France and the country’s most populous city. It is situated on the river Seine, in northern France, at the heart of the Île-de-France region. The city of Paris is one of the most populated metropolitan areas in Europe and has been an important settlement for more than two millennia. Paris today is one of the world’s leading business and cultural centers, its influence in politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world’s major global cities.

Terezin, Czech Republic

Terezín is the name of a former military fortress and garrison town in the Ústí nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic. During WWII, the Gestapo used Terezín, better known by the German name Theresienstadt, as a ghetto, concentrating Jews from Czechoslovakia, as well as many from Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and Denmark. Though it was not an extermination camp, of the over 150,000 Jews who arrived there, about 33,000 died in the ghetto itself, mostly because of the appalling conditions arising out of extreme population density.

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is a major U.S. port and the largest city in the state of Louisiana. New Orleans is the center of the New Orleans Metropolitan Area, the largest metro area in the state. New Orleans is located in southeastern Louisiana, straddling the Mississippi River. It is bounded by the parishes of St. Tammany (north), St. Bernard (east), Plaquemines (south) and Jefferson (south and west). Lake Pontchartrain, part of which is included in the city limits, lies to the north and Lake Borgne lies to the east.

The city is named after Philippe II, Duc d’Orléans, Regent of France, and is well known for its multicultural and multilingual heritage, cuisine, architecture, music, and its annual celebrations and festivals, including Mardi Gras. The city is often referred to as the “most unique” city in America.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Amsterdam is the capital and largest city of the Netherlands, located in the province of North Holland in the west of the country. The city, which had a population of 1.36 million as of 1 January 2008, comprises the northern part of the Randstad, the 6th-largest metropolitan area in Europe, with a population of around 6.7 million.

Its name is derived from Amstel dam, indicative of the city’s origin: a dam in the river Amstel, where the Dam Square is today. Settled as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age, a result of its innovative developments in trade. During that time, the city was the leading center for finance and diamonds.[8] In the 19th and 20th centuries, the city expanded and many new neighborhoods and suburbs were formed.
